From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Radiometric dating (often called radioactive dating) is a technique used to date materials, usually based on a comparison between the observed abundance of a naturally occurring radioactive isotope and its decay products, using known decay rates. It is the principal source of information about the absolute age of rocks and other geological features, including the age of the Earth itself, and can be used to date a wide range of natural and man-made materials. Together with stratigraphic principles, radiometric dating methods are used in geochronology to establish the geological time scale. Among the best-known techniques are radiocarbon dating, potassium-argon dating and uranium-lead dating. By allowing the establishment of geological timescales, it provides a significant source of information about the ages of fossils and the deduced rates of evolutionary change. Radiometric dating is also used to date archaeological materials, including ancient artifacts. Different methods of radiometric dating vary in the timescale over which they are accurate and the materials to which they can be applied. From Wikipedia under the

Q. Does a mutation to a gene provide new information? Asked by John - Wed Jun 10 15:00:40 2009 - - 4 Answers - 3 Comments A. They are both very inaccurate. Pye seems to have very little knowledge how carbon-14 dating and radiometric dating works so lets dig in. First carbon dating is irreverent to evolution, but many ignorant evolutionist say it proves evolution. Carbon tells you when something died. It can only date back to 4000-5000 years. I do not know where they get those 50 or 100 million years. Carbon dating is not consistent with historical finding. Carbon dating does not agree with artifacts with known dates. To compute the age of something using carbon dating you need to compare the about of carbon 14 with the amount of carbon 14 when the specimen died, which is impossible. So you have to make a assumption. Most of the time their is little carbon… [cont.] Answered by Jr. - Wed Jun 10 18:53:40 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "radiometric dating" Young earth creationist, Paul Giem, PhD on radiometric dating
