New Jersey (pronounced /njuː ˈdʒɜrzi/, locally [nuː ˈdʒɜrzi]( listen)) is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. It is bordered on the northeast by New York, on the southeast and south by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Pennsylvania and on the southwest by Delaware. New Jersey lies largely within the sprawling metropolitan areas of New York City and Philadelphia. It is the most densely populated state in the United States.

The area was inhabited by Native Americans for more than 2,800 years, with historical tribes the Lenape along the coast. In the early 1600s, the Dutch and the Swedes made the first European settlements. The English later seized control of the region, naming it the Province of New Jersey. It was granted as a colony to Sir George Carteret and John Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley of Stratton. At this time, it was named after the largest of the British Channel Islands, Jersey. New Jersey was the site of several decisive battles during the American Revolutionary War.

In the 19th century, factories in cities such as Paterson and Trenton helped to drive the Industrial Revolution. New Jersey's position at the center of the Northeast megalopolis, between Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., fueled its rapid growth through the suburban boom of the 1950s and beyond. Today, New Jersey has the highest population density and the second highest median income of any state in the United States. Only Maryland has a higher median income. The Governor of New Jersey is Republican Chris Christie.

A. Homeschooling is easy in New Jersey. I am homeschooling my daughter for her second year. She is 12 and we did it last year. I just had to send a letter to the superintendent of schools to let him know that we would be homeschooling. Your mom can devise what ever curriculum she chooses and long as she meets all the requirements for what your little sis should be studying. The internet is a great place to start. You can buy packages for her grade which are very expensives. I went on the different websites and came up with my own program for my daughter and it cost under $300 total. You can also get information for different subjects online for free and you can also take books out at the library. This is what I am teaching my daughter this… [cont.]

How can I transfer my teaching certification from New Jersey back to Maryland?
Q. I'm looking into a college in New Jersey, which is nationally accredited through NCATE, the national council for accreditation of teacher education. We'll be certified for the state of New Jersey as well. I'd really like to go back home to teach in Maryland, so would it still be easy to transfer my accreditation back to Maryland when I'm finished? Thanks to everyone!

Where should I live in New Jersey that is close to Newark airport?
Q. I would like to find an affordable townhome or condo that is within 30 min drive to Newark airport. I would love to find a town with charm, stores, restaurants, close to a mall or a home depot but yet has a nice safe quiet charm to it. Please send me your suggestions. What towns in New Jersey are nice and suburban but arent in the middle of nowhere, and are still affordable. We are a young couple starting out.

A. How about a 45 min drive to the airport? If you can do that, I can recommend the area around Princeton. (West Windsor, Cranbury, Hopewell, Pennington, Lawrenceville, Princeton Junction, Plainsboro.) These are very good neighborhoods and at Pri Jct, there's a commuter train station to NYC and Philli. Restaurants range from super sophisticated to diners. The prices for townhomes and condos vary. I can tell you that I haven't seen anything for less than 200K though for a 2BR. Just have a look at realtor.com to get an idea what there is on the market in the different villages.
