Creationism is the religious belief that humanity, life, the Earth, and the universe were created in their original form by a supernatural being or beings, commonly a single deity. In a broad sense, it covers a wide range of interpretations of beliefs that a supernatural force such as a deity intervenes, or has intervened, directly in the natural world. In relation to the creation-evolution controversy the term creationism is commonly used to refer to religiously motivated rejection of natural biological processes, in particular evolution, as an explanation accounting for the history, diversity, and complexity of life on earth. In the West such creationism is usually based on a literal reading of Genesis 1-2 but other religions have other deity led creation myths which may be quite different.

In many countries, belief in creationism has decreased as scientific theories have been presented that support more naturalistic explanations for the universe and for the life within, though not necessarily the basic tenets of their religion. Whilst some have tried to refute these theories, others believe in types of creationism that do not exclude all of these theories. When mainstream scientific research produces conclusions which contradict a strict creationist interpretation of scripture, some will reject the conclusions of the research and/or its underlying scientific theories and/or its methodology. Both creation science and intelligent design have been labeled as pseudoscience by the mainstream scientific community. The most notable disputes concern the effects of evolution on the development of living organisms, the idea of common descent, the geologic history of the Earth, the formation of the solar system, and the origin of the universe.

How is evolution any more logical than creationism?
Q. I noticed a question about Creationism in schools and decided to ask my own. Ok lets analyze Evolution. So we started out with nothing. And then nothing exploded and made something? Really doesn't make sense. There is motion in the world and everything is moved by something else. How was the first thing moved? God possibly? The human body is so precise and perfect so that every system works perfectly (from atoms to eco-systems). It seems odd that all of that could have just happened by chance.

A. First, to address the_libertyman's rant. We have the exact mechanisms of dna changes leading to speciation (wiki "ring species"). We have the fossil evidence of speciation through evolution. But like so many evolution deniers, he says there's no proof. That's like saying: - I know my wife can buy groceries. - I see fresh milk in the refrigerator that I didn't put there. - But since I didn't SEE my wife buy milk, I can only assume God magically put it there. His answer is classic "moving goalposts" used by people who are clinging to arguments they've already lost. To address the original question: The argument isn't really "Creationism" versus "Evolution". Evolution happens - creatures evolve. We evolved from earlier forms. The… [cont.]

How does Creationism explain the Cosmic Background Radiation?
Q. It was an important prediction from the Big Bang. Once it was detected in 1956 debate pretty much ended on rather the Big Bang happened or not in science because you could effectively see it in radio waves. So exactly how does it fit into Creationism?

Besides creationism or big bang, what other ideas are out there?
Q. I want to do some research over how people think the universe came to be (such as creationism and big bang). So what are some other ideas that people believe? Thanks.

A. In order to pose that question you have to believe that everything has a beginning and an end. However, there is the belief in the infinite. So do you believe in infinity or do you believe that there is a beginning and an end? If you believe in the infinite then there is no starting point. Everything is because it always was and always will be. It may not always be the same thing or look the same way, but it's always there in some form. Take the Earth as an example. It was once nothing more than a swirl of gas in a nebula. As the gasses swirled together they formed the 8 planets or 9 planets or 10 planets - whatever you believe. Before the nebula that created Earth came to be, those gasses were floating in the cosmos and before… [cont.]
