A new religious movement (NRM) is a faith-based community, or ethical, spiritual, or philosophical group of recent origin. NRMs may be novel in origin or they may be part of a wider religion, such as Christianity, in which case they will be distinct from pre-existing denominations. Scholars studying the sociology of religion have almost unanimously adopted this term as a neutral alternative to the word "cult". They continue to try to reach agreement on definitions and boundaries. An NRM may be one of a wide range of movements ranging from those with loose affiliations based on novel approaches to spirituality or religion to communitarian enterprises that demand a considerable amount of group conformity and a social identity that separates their adherents from mainstream society. Use of the term is not universally accepted among the groups to which it is applied. NRMs do not necessarily share a set of particular attributes, but have been "assigned to the fringe of the dominant religious culture", and "exist in a relatively contested space within society as a whole". Liberal Hollywood movie stars are promoting this creepy new movement for Barack Obama called " I pledge" Ashton Cusher and Demi More and many of the liberal Hollywood elite are big supporters of it . Demi More and Ashton Cusher were recently on the Oprah Winfrey show who funny enough has been promoting her own version of cultic religion lately . Something is very fishy here . I'm telling you friends, Those of you who are supporting this man are gonna soon realize just who this man is, You need to wake up . I feel SICK after watching it. "I pledge my service to Barack Obama"?!!?!?!?! Are you kidding. I was so upset by the video that I got my wife and kid to come watch it. Altruism, service for a greater good and charity are wonderful things...I really mean that. Doing so through force or coersion via taxation, legal plunder etc. is unconstitutional and immoral. I would like a utopia as well...just not through government force. Seriously, that "I Pledge" video and the picture of President Obama is like 1984 stuff. These people may be well meaning and altruistic, but their ideology is WRONG. I'm gonna go find someplace to cry now... **EDIT** The government is there to serve US...not for us to… [cont.] Answered by LIBERTY4EVER - Sun Jan 25 11:36:04 2009 How are newer religions similar/different than older religions?

Asked by Glitter Berry - Tue Jul 17 12:18:25 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses is not a "cult". Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians who understand the Scriptures to teach that God's Kingdom by Christ Jesus is a real government which will soon replace all earthly governments. (Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite That Kingdom will rule over the vast majority of mankind, most of whom will have been raised from the dead after Armageddon. (John 11:23,24) Jesus said to her: Your brother will rise. Martha said to him: I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day. (Acts 24:15) There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the… [cont.] Answered by achtung_heiss - Thu Jul 19 14:05:37 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "New religious movement" |
